ACADEMICS

Overview

During the school week, students participate in educational activities in the areas of Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science, Health, Physical Education, Visual & Performing Arts, and Hawaiiana. Technology and critical thinking are integrated across the curriculum. Classroom teachers also provide appropriate instruction to students with unique needs and talents, including Special Education, English Language Learners, Gifted and Talented and Project BRIDGES.

Other student programs include: Student Council, Peer Mediatiors, Junior Police Officers (JPO), and Junior Library Assistants (JLA). Haha`ione also provides many opportunities for our students to participate in community service. Our goals are to create student leaders and a sense of civic responsibility.

In addition, Haha`ione provides qualifying students with an after-school care program called A-Plus, as well as an early morning care program provided by Kama`aina Kids. We also encourage programs to rent our facilities and offer enrichment opportunities to our children after-school. Examples include Japanese language, Mandarin, math tutoring, visual arts, hands-on science, and hula. For more information, please click on After School Programs.

Curriculum

Hawaii is following the Common Core State Standards in Math and Language Arts. We are still using HCPSIII (Hawaii Content Performance Standards) in all other content areas.

Our Math curriculum is Stepping Stones. It is implemented in grades K-5.

Our ELA (English Language Art) curriculum is Wonders. It is also implemented in grades K-5. Students with this curriculum are given a student account in which they are able to play games that enhance their learning with their curriculum being taught, review vocabulary for the week, use a digital anthology, and much more.

Haha`ione's Science and Social Studies are currently addressed in our PYP Units of Inquiry.
